2006 Bands

"Always the third Saturday in June,
Rain or Shine!"

This festival presents a variety of performers and bands of traditional music.

The  2006 festival features the following entertainment:

Kruger Brothers

The Kruger Brothers from Switzerland have been performing professionally since 1973. Almost twenty years later, after playing together in various formations throughout Europe, Uwe Kruger on guitar, and Jens Kruger on banjo, teamed up with bassist Joel Landsberg to form the band as it appears on stage today.

Spirit Fiddle

Spirit Fiddle, featuring Champion Fiddler Robin Warren and Guitarist Brian Clancey, performs a wide variety of energetic music, ranging from bouncy Southern and Texas swing tunes to sweet waltzes, old popular songs, bluegrass numbers, French Canadian and Celtic jigs and reels, and Parisian musette. Robin was the first fiddler ever to win the coveted Fiddler of the Festival title during 3 different years at Fiddler's Grove in North Carolina. For this, she was granted the title of Master Fiddler.

Big Country Bluegrass

plays music that has become known to many as "Galax" or "Mt. Airy" style bluegrass - the sounds and style that evoke memories of Ted Lundy, Larry Richardson, Roy McMillan, Joe Edd King, L.W. Lambert and countless others. It is straight ahead, hard edged bluegrass without the frills of the "get in as many licks or notes as you can" approach so common in much of the bluegrass played today. The rhythm and timing are solid, the instrumental work is clean and tasteful, and the vocals are from the heart.

Roni Stoneman

The Roni Stoneman Show is an absolute delight featuring ballads, clogging, comedy and lightening-fast instrumentals from “The First Lady of Banjo.” Roni comes from a pioneer musical family and was a regular on the famous “Hee Haw” show for years. She has appeared on all the major musical venues including the Grand Ole Opry, The Glenn Campbell Show, Hollywood Palace and the major Las Vegas’ clubs.

Roan Mountain Hilltoppers

The Roan Mountain Hilltoppers are a southern Appalachian traditional mountain music string band. Carrying on a family tradition passed down for generations, the band has performed at varied venues, such as the American Folklife Festival at the Smithsonian, Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, and the1982 World’s Fair.
