A big day of music is coming up as Rosanne Cash and John Leventhal headline our 19 annual Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition.

Also appearing will be the Quebe Sisters Band, the Crooked Road Ramblers, the Harris Brothers, Cabin Fever NW, and Wayne Henderson and Friends.

Twenty guitar competition contestants will have the chance to win a handmade Henderson guitar, and scholarships will be presented to young musicians studying Appalachian music and the groups that support them. The festival will be presenting $17,500 in scholarships to individuals and groups this year. That means a total of more than $96,000 in scholarships given since 1995.

Cash has been recording since the 1980s, in country, rock, roots and pop, and Leventhal is a Grammy-winning musician, producer, songwriter and recording engineer.

The Quebe Sisters Band returns to the festival with their three-part harmony and blend of western swing, vintage country, bluegrass, jazz and swing, and Texas-style fiddling.

The Crooked Road Ramblers is an old-time dance band from Grayson County, Va., and Ashe County, N.C.

The Harris Brothers, from Lenoir, N.C., are influenced by the blues and traditional Appalachian mountain music.

From the Pacific Northwest comes Cabin Fever NW, Dianne Wood Bochsler and Tara Lynn Caldwell, singer-songwriters who blend folk, bluegrass, pop, alt-country, blues and more.

Bring a chair or blanket and a picnic if you wish. Meals, ice cream and a variety of concessions will be available. A children’s area will feature lariat artist Doug Smith and his rope tricks, along with music, crafts and games.
